MP detects 1.12 lakh TB patients through intensified screening: Dy CM

Bhopal, Oct 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) Madhya Pradesh has detected 1.12 lakh tuberculosis (TB) patients through intensified screening, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla said on Thursday.

The state has stepped up its TB elimination drive by involving youth volunteers and NCC cadets in door-to-door screening to identify suspected patients and ensure their early linkage with healthcare services.

Shukla said the intensified screening had resulted in the identification of a significantly higher number of TB patients and helped ensure timely treatment.

"Earlier, only 25,000 to 30,000 patients could be identified. Through extensive screening, more patients are now being detected, and their treatment is being started on time," he said.

He was speaking at a state-level programme at Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal, where JOSH (Joint Squad for Health) teams were launched to involve young people in the TB elimination campaign.

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda virtually launched the JOSH teams at the national level from New Delhi.

The JOSH teams, comprising MY Bharat volunteers and NCC cadets, have been formed at the block and district levels.

They will assist health workers in door-to-door screening, create awareness, identify suspected TB patients, and help connect them with health services.

Shukla said regular medication for six months, nutritious food and support from Nikshay Mitras were helping TB patients recover and become "TB Champions".

"Health awareness and timely screening are important to prevent serious diseases," he said, calling upon young people to actively participate in the TB elimination campaign.

The Deputy Chief Minister also urged pregnant women to undergo antenatal check-ups on time and asked gram panchayats to remain vigilant in this regard.

He said the state was also conducting extensive screening for non-communicable diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, fatty liver disease and sickle cell anaemia.

Minister of State for Public Health and Medical Education Narendra Shivaji Patel said youth participation was crucial for TB elimination and that collective efforts would accelerate the goal of making Madhya Pradesh TB-free.

During the programme, eight TB-free gram panchayats, three Nikshay Mitras, and five health officials and health workers were honoured for their contribution to the TB elimination campaign.

More than 200 participants attended the programme in person, while over 5,000 people from across Madhya Pradesh participated virtually.
